About the head Web Designer and Web Developer in Portsmouth

Our head web designer and developer has been using computers in a creative sense since the age of 10. Initially as a hobby he delved mainly into programming and also graphic design on various 8 bit machines in the 80's and 90's which included the Commodore 64 and ZX Spectrum. He developed artistic flair at the time utilising various graphical paint programs.

 

During his time at college working towards various qualifications in Information Technology, he worked for a small local printing company as a graphic designer and was heavily involved in what was known at the time as Desktop Publishing. Here he learned how to create effective business stationery and developed great awareness of branding and corporate identity, and also had insight into the various methods used to prepare digital documents for the printing process.

 

In the early and mid 1990's he learned to single handedly program various projects using a combination of 68000 assembly language while mastering C/C++ with the popular 16bit Commodore Amiga series of computers.

 

During the mid to late 1990's, the various projects he had worked on included: Database applications, Data conversion tools, Diagnostic tools, Low level hardware access routines, Data formatting tools and various technical demos.

 

He also attempted to develop small but simple games using a part interpreted language called AMOS and with assembly language but found that this was not an area he wanted to directly specialise in.

 

With the advent and popularity of the internet in the late 1990's, he started to develop hand coding skills with HTML using just notepad. From there the early transgression into other such technologies such as Javascript and Database development followed.

 

During the late 90's he was appointed as a software developer at an internet mapping company and was responsible for bringing internet deployed mapping solutions to various customers. Technologies used included: MySQL, Linux, Unix, Solaris, work with web servers, designing graphics and animations with Macromedia Flash and software development with C/C++ on Visual Studio. Software was developed and cross compiled to work with both Linux and Windows systems.

 

From here, he has moved on to develop solutions with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver and Flash. He purposely learned PHP 5 in 2002, to develop a content management system from scratch with the objective of cataloguing and re-selling heavy machinery via the web. This in turn was a massive learning curve and aided to develop strong Object Orientated modular design skills.

To this day, he has achieved far greater awareness of contemporary web technologies such as HTML 4, CSS 2, Javascript PHP, Mysql, Java, Linux, and continues to keep his skills updated through further self learning and development.

When he is away from the computer our head developer participates in retro gaming events, enjoys dance and trance music, film and cinema, Weight training, Kickboxing and Martial Arts.

 

His other interests include modding and electronics, and he has recently built his own joysticks for personal use with authentic precision arcade parts. He also takes time to build and upgrade PC's for his friends and family and also assists with the resolution of fault finding and the fixing of various technical problems.
