Do I need a static or dynamic website and which is the right one for me?

This depends on the budget for your website and also the depth of your requirements. If you have the need to update information regularly by means of news feeds with regular updates to your pages then a dynamic website would be for you. If however, you only require content which will be static and not change that regularly then a static website would be the best option. Anything that includes selling online however would come under e-commerce and would be best suited to a dynamic website.

How much will my website cost?

This can vary depending on requirements and how many pages you may need. We try to encourage most medium sized businesses to have at least 5 pages, but we can develop a site with a minimum of 3 pages. We currently offer a budget 3 page starter website deal which starts off at just *£200. (*excluding anual hosting and domain fees).

How long does it take to have my website designed?

Turnaround time can vary based upon the requirements of the site and also the number of pages needed, and if any other work is undertaken such as logo design, branding, and video work. Awaiting material and content can also slow the process down and delay the finalisation and completion dates of the project. The average turnaround time depending on workload and site complexity is generally 2-8 weeks. Simple uncomplicated solutions can be delivered within 2 weeks usually.

What is a URL?

This stands for Uniform Resource Locator. This is the same as your web address or domain name. Although a URL can point to a specific page or document at a web location. for example: 'http://www.bloggsthebakers.com' would be an example of a URL or website address.

What is a domain name and how do I go about getting one?

A domain name is a unique name which your website can be found under. This is also referered to as a URL (see above). What this means generally is a company website must use a meaningful name in order for customers to be able to find it. It's no good having a domain name like 'bobbloggs.com', instead something along the lines of 'www.bloggsbuilders.com' (if available) would be more recommended.

If I am hosted with another domain hosting company, can I switch it over to you?

Chances are the company you are with with have your domain name registered with a registrar and this can often be problematic when attempting to recover control of your domain name. As domains are locked by the registrar after purchase, you will need to contact them with proof of your Identification usually via phone or email and request they unlock the domain. Only when it is unlocked can you submit a transfer request with the new hosting company. We do not get directly involved with domain transfers, but we can advise on how you can resolve this issue if needed.

Can I choose you to design my site but still use my own web hosting?

Yes, you can use your own hosting provider, providing you already have purchased a valid domain name and hosting package. We will require the usernames and passwords in order to access your website and upload your website. Please also ensure that the hosting supports FTP or File transfer protocol otherwise we cannot make use of your webspace to upload your website. Such hosting providers like Moonfruit offer cut price hosting and a basic website template to get you going. They do not offer the FTP feature so regrettably, we cannot use providers that do not support the FTP feature.

What is web hosting?

Web hosting is space allocated to you and your website on a dedicated web server with your hosting provider that is on 24/7. You need web space on a remote server to store or host the html files and images for your website.

What is meant by site maintenance?

This is the process of regularly making changes to a website by means of updating the images and text. Such changes are made via the uploading of revised pages using an FTP program. In the instance of a dynamic website. Administrators can log in and update the content online without the need to manually change pages and upload them via FTP. FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol.

Do you offer any type of discounts?

We currently offer discounts to start up companies who decide to have a website designed by us with accompanied with the design of themed business stationery. We are also doing a promotion for a 3 page template business starter website at the moment which will get you online quickly starting from just *£200. *Domain and hosting fees extra.

Why can't I find my website in the search engines?

This is because of the way that the search engines search web servers for new content and the way it's included. It can sometimes take weeks or months before websites are picked up by the search engines.

What do I need to put on my site regarding website content?

This depends on the type and nature of business, but a good place to start would be to think about what wording you would like included on your site, and what photos you would like included also. If you have any ideas about logos, colours or layout be sure to note these down roughly on paper and present them to us. You can also email us your content. We can accept scanned sketches, word documents, jpeg images from digital cameras etc.

Once my website is completed what after sales service do you offer?

We offer an after sales service to rectify any issues (if any) that you may be having with your site, and also include any last minute changes or material which you would like included. We may also contact you regularly to see how things are going and if we can further revise your solution by means of updates or additional website maintenance.

Do I have to keep my website with you or can I move it to another hosting supplier?

No, Once you have settled the balance for your website in full, you are perfectly free to move it to another supplier if you so wish, but you do this purely at your own risk. If you do move it to another supplier we cannot provide future support.

Are there any obligations, contracts or hidden charges I should be aware of?

There are no obligations or contracts to fulfill once your site is finished and final balances have been paid. However, you must observe the terms and conditions for intellectual property rights, which you can find more about on our Terms and Conditions page.

When my solution is completed, will I have complete technology rights to it?

If you have paid for a website solution then you only have the rights to the website itself. The look and feel and any material used will be yours unless otherwise stated. The 'back-end' or inner workings of your site including some program code may be released to you under an 'open license' which means the source files and acknowledgements within them must remain, and you cannot pass off the work as your own or re-sell the code. However, in the event of developing a bespoke software solution, full technology rights may be granted if to be deemed as part of the project specification, but this will only be granted if given in writing.

What do I need to provide to you for you to design my website?

Anything you can think of, including sketches for logos, ideas about layout, and colour themes, written or typed text that you would like included. A list of services, slogans, images you want including, these could be your staff, your products, services, etc. You can also take a look at your competitors websites and note anything relevant which you may like to see on your website. Pay particular attention to services and products and how they relate to your business.

If I choose a Content Management System, will my pages be search engine friendly?

While we make every effort to make dynamic pages search engine friendly by embedding static elements into them, we cannot guarantee how effective this will be with regards to search engine ranking profiles, but we are certain the search engine will pick out the pages without any issue.

How do I update my website?

This depends on which solution you go for. A static site will need to be updated manually and the task would be better delegated to us. If however you have paid for a dynamic website there will exist facilities for you to update the information yourself online by means of a back-end username and password.

After my site is designed, what are my obligations?

Your obligations will be to keep your domain name and hosting renewed every year to avoid your site going offline due to expiry. You can choose to let us deal with this for you or you can register the domain and web hosting in your name if you so wish so in the event of the renewal date coming up, you will be the first one to receive the news via email.

Do your websites come with email facilities and how do I access my company email?

Yes, the hosting packages we offer and recommend come with email as standard which will be attached to your chosen domain name. You can access your mail via a web-mail feature offered by the domain hosting provider. You will have your own unique username and password and you will be able to read, and send your email via any web browser anywhere in the world. Alternatively you can set up your mail client such as Microsoft Outlook to retrieve the mail for you. We can provide assistance with this if you require it.

Will my website look the same on different platforms and when using different browsers?

No two web browsers are the same and because of standardisation issues between them it is extremely difficult to create web pages that look 100% identical on all browsers and platforms. There may be some slight spacing issues regarding the text and layout, but you can rest assured that your site will render correctly over different platforms and browsers and your site will not appear 'broken'.

I have some ideas and sketches as to what I want. Would you take these into account?

Yes of course. The more information you provide, the more efficiently and effectively we will get to work on your solution. This will enable us to get things done very quickly if all the information we require is present at the time of drafting out your requirements specification.

Will I be able to see how many visitors I have attracted to my website?

We can add basic hit counters and traffic statistics to your site at no extra cost, but if you prefer something more in-depth from a specialised traffic monitoring provider then additional labour costs may be necessary.

Is there any training provided on how to use your CMS solutions?

We will provide written documentation on how to control the various elements of our CMS solution but we can also provide basic training on site as well if necessary.

Can my website include a payment gateway for taking payments?

Yes payment gateways can be implemented and there are a few choices and avenues you can explore with this. One is the Google Checkout System which takes a small commission for every transaction, or Paypal which works in a similar way. Direct card authorisation services require trusted bank accounts and can only be implemented employing strict standards including the use of SSL (Secure Socket Layer) encryption technology. To use SSL you will require subscription to a trusted authority which will grant you an SSL certification code which will be used with every transaction. SSL Certificates are quite expensive initially and should not be considered for small businesses.

How many pages will I need for my website?

This varies from business to business, but we try to encourage the use of at least 5 pages to spread out and lay out the information without making the site look too cramped. In some instances though you can have a site with 3 pages.

I already have a website and I need it updating, can you help me out with this?

Yes we can update your site for you subject to the original technologies used and how your site was initially designed. Hourly rates for updating apply.

I have an existing website and I'm not totally happy with it. Would you be able to re-vamp it?

Yes we can revamp and re-brand existing sites but we usually start with a new site and use the old one as a basis for the new design.

If I use your web hosting and email facilities, are there any spam filtering services included?

As we rely on the use of 3rd party services for our domain names and hosting services, we cannot guarantee a totally spam free experience with your email. We understand that the provider does take certain measures to keep spam at a minimum, but occasionally unwanted emails can still get through. If spam is a worry for you, we can use techniques to cloak your email address from unwanted spammers. This often helps to keep out spam as well.

Will I have an email address linked to my domain name? e.g bob@bobthebuilders.com?

Yes, all basic hosting packages will have email addresses linked with your domain name.

I've made my decision to go with you. What do I have to do now?
